Cylinder Blocks Kidken’s Cylinder Blocks are a set of four blocks made out of teakwood. Each of these blocks is a rectangular prism with concave faces to facilitate firm holding. They help the child get used to the pincer grip because the knobs are the pencil grip type. . The pincer grip, as you are aware, becomes a foundation for writing at a later stage—holding pencils. Look at them visually and you will notice the discrimination of sizes is evident. A child gets the first stage of being able to visually discriminate the dimensions, and as the child’s competency grows, he/she will begin to differentiate them with the touch. Cylinder blocks also play a pivotal role in understanding mathematics and language as a child explores them further—height and diameter become part of the explorations. Cylinder Blocks, also called Knobbed Cylinders. The surfaces are highly polished. Each block has 10 sockets. Block A: Height varies from 5.5 cm to 1 cm at 0.5 cm intervals. The diameter remains constant. Block B: the diameter varies from 5.5 cm to 1.5 cm while the height remains constant. Block C varies in height and thickness, both increasing at regular intervals of 0.5 cm. Block D: height and thickness variations, but while the height increases, the diameter decreases
