MATERIAL DESCRIPTION : wooden boxes with five compartments in each box. Compartments in box 1 are numbered 0 to 4 and compartments in box 2 are marked 5 to 9. There are also 45 wooden spindles. BENEFITS: Understand the concepts of basic arithmetic, learn to count and associate quantity with a number digit by placing the correct number of spindles into appropriate compartments. Understand the concept of zero by demonstrating that there are no spindles in the zero compartment.
